When this festival began in 1954, just 34 guests attended the first oyster banquet. Now it’s been dubbed “one of the 12 greatest shows on earth” and draws more than 22,000 visitors.
The World Oyster Opening championships play out on Saturday – it’s a deliciously nail-biting event, which pits some of the world’s best chefs and shuckers against each other. The party atmosphere carries on late into the night, with a Mardi Gras-style masked ball. Get your tickets early to avoid disappointment.
