Christmas Day swims

It’s not known precisely when the tradition of the Christmas Day swim emerged, though it’s thought to have been round the mid-19th century when swimming clubs were first established. An annual ritual for many, it’s the best possible way to burn off all those mince pies and clear a fuzzy head.

One of the most popular Christmas Day dips takes place in Porthcawl, raising money for the RNLI, but organised – or more spontaneous – swims will take place up and down the country.
