The Master Fishmonger Standard launches Young Fishmonger of the Year.
The next generation of fishmongers are being called upon to battle it out in a competition that will test their technical knowledge, skills and passion for the trade. As the first of its kind, the Award will celebrate young talent and provide a platform on which to build their future careers.
The Master Fishmonger Standard, managed by the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers, certifies fishmongers with extensive professional skills and knowledge. The Guild has helped to uphold standards of Fishmongering since 1272.
Recognising that both seafood preparation and customer service skills are key to high quality fishmongering, applicants must submit one video demonstrating their filleting or shucking skills and a second video or written paragraph highlighting their passion for and commitment to the industry. These videos will then be judged by both a panel of certified Master Fishmongers and a public poll available via the Master Fishmonger Standard website. Applicants must be under the age of 25 to apply.
The winner of the MFS Young Fishmonger Award will be invited to receive their prize at the annual MFS awards ceremony at the historic Fishmongers’ Hall on the 3rd of June.

Giles Shaw, president of the National Federation of Fishmongers, explained his support for the award stating: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase and celebrate the wealth of young talent in our profession”.
