Some of the UK’s best loved chefs will come together in Whitstable on October 15th to celebrate the very best of Whitstable’s food and drink in the inaugural the Whitstable Food Festival.
Angela Hartnett will host a discussion on making the best use of the seafood around our shores, while local chef Stephen Harris is joining ex-Petersham Nurseries and chef Patron at Spring Skye Gyngell, for a talk on the importance of cooking with the seasons.
Top Spanish chef José Pizarro is doing a ‘tapas takeover’ over lunch at the Whitstable institution that is Samphire restaurant*, and Drew Smith (award-winning food writer and author of ‘Oyster: a Gastronomic History’) will present a global view of the oyster, tracing its role in cooking, art, literature and politics.
The talks will be taking places at various intimate venues across Whitstable, including the Horsebridge Arts Centre, Whitstable Castle, The Pearsons Arms and Samphire restaurant. Supporting events and activities will also be taking place at Copperfields (voted Best Cookshop in the UK) and the Whitstable Produce Store and cafe. Tickets start at £8.50 each and go up to £10, and at selected talks each guest will enjoy some food cooked by the chef doing the talk.
